How Intermittent Fasting can help Poker Players

You might have seen players eat and drink in the most expensive and top pros tournaments in the world.

At this moment, you might be asking: ‘Sure, and is anything wrong with that’?

I am not discouraging this activity or persuading you to stop this at once, but suggesting a better alternative i.e. Intermittent Fasting.

What is Intermittent Fasting?

Definition- Restricting the period in which a person intake his/her calories.

Let’s understand this concept via an example:

Let’s say you eat your breakfast at 7 AM, lunch at noon, and dinner at 6 PM.

What’s happening here is that you are taking three meals in 11 hours, which essentially means that you are fasting for 24 – 11 = 13 hours a day.

Now, there are two prevailing intermittent fasting methods which are extremely popular-

  • 16/8 Method- The numbers speak for themselves. You fast for 16 hours a day by completing your diet in 8 hours.
  • Eat Stop Eat Protocol- You need to skip your food for 24 hours at least once or twice a week.

Why Should Poker Players not eat immediately before or during the game?

Simply because ‘Food makes a person lethargic.’

There must have been times in your life when you feel like taking a nap after having good food.

Also, it is not suggested to eat or drink during the game session as in such a case; you need to divide your attention between eating and playing.

Benefits of Fasting

  • Skipping food helps your cells eat themselves. Crazy, right? The process is called autophagy, and one of the experts who suggested it won the Nobel Prize back in 2016.
  • This benefit pertains to those who wanna shed some weight. Yes, Fasting’s ultimate service is that it improves the odds of using fat as a source of energy.

Intermittent Fasting should be considered by anyone who wants to improve his/her performance at the Poker Table as it improves both focus and attention.

It is recommended that you skip ‘Processed Foods’ and include ‘Proteins’ in Your Diet.
